How to timeshift

Tips to help you prepare to timeshift for the first time.

The key to quick adaptation is light

Light is the most important time cue for shifting your circadian clock, so try your best to follow the light exposure and light avoidance advice.

You can avoid light anywhere

If Timeshifter tells you to avoid light, but you’re outside or in a brightly lit room, just put on your favorite dark sunglasses.

You can get exposed
to light anywhere

If Timeshifter tells you to see light when you’re in a dark place, just turn on any available lights and make sure to increase the brightness to a maximum.

If you can’t sleep, just stay in the dark

If Timeshifter suggests you sleep or nap, but you can’t sleep the whole time, just put on your sleep mask or dark sunglasses to avoid light.

Follow the advice as much as possible

Don't worry, we will tell you exactly what to do and when to do it. You don't have to do everything perfectly, but the more you do, the more benefits you are going to experience.

What you need

Always bring the below items with you on trips (and in your carry-on bag).

  • A comfortable sleep mask

  • Your favorite dark sunglasses

  • Melatonin (if you choose to use it): Please ask your doctor about its safety, side effects, drug interactions, and warnings, and “ground test” it at home before using it on a plane. Only buy the type and dosage recommended in the app.

We are always by your side

If you need to edit a trip or enter a work schedule, have questions about the advice, or just want to talk, we are always available for a chat inside the app. We would also love to get all your thoughts and ideas about how we could make timeshifting an even better experience. Don’t be shy, we would love to hear from you!

Happy timeshifting.
